Any kind of phone card will do. There are two major ways to call home in Iraq.

First, there are the AT&T phone centers which are just trailers with anywhere from 4 to 20 regular style pay telephones.

See if they can use SPAWAR phone cards. I used them when I was in Iraq. There were specific directions for dialing but I don't remember maybe if you check out this website. I know it is really cheap.

What is the best organization to donate the AT&T phones cards through for our troops in the middle east?

I'm at the website ( https://shop.milexch.com/scs/default.aspx ) and they have six different organizations I can send the cards through. Can anyone tell me which would be best at getting the cards out?

If you wanted to choose one of those, i would go with the Red Cross. They are very good get getting things to where they have to be. I saw them a few times. The next best thing would be to adopt a soldier using a website such as http://www.adoptaussoldier.org/index.

If my husband is calling me from South Korea...... How long will a 550 minute calling card last? I bought it from the military exchange?

Divide 550 minutes by 60 min/hr.
550/60 = 9.16

I know..it all must be on paper. I thought of sending stamps, phone cards, military humor, letters, or simple cards. anyone else have any ideas?

i guess things have changed. when my son was in the marines i sent him junk food. he wanted stuff like hostess cupcakes, cookies, etc. (this was in 1991)

"This statement, made in one of the direct mail solicitation campaigns defendant CDR [Creative Direct Response] conducted for HHV, was false, misleading, and deceptive and would likely lead a reasonable donor to believe that there were... Chapin also allegedly destroyed Conquer Cancer and Alzheimer's Now records after the U. S. Congressional Committee on Oversight and Government Reform probed Help Hospitalized Veterans and other veteran charities and asked Chapin to testify. Other improper claims that the charity made involve $40 million for public-service announcements and shipping discounts, and $40 million in program-service expenses for the fiscal years 2002-11, according to the complaint. California says Help Hospitlized Veterans, Roger Chapin and other HHV directors claimed the scorecards as revenue and as a "program services expense. California additionally claims that HHV made improper self-dealing loans of $800,000 to American Target Advertising, a direct-mail fundraiser that is also not a party to the complaint. (CN) - A charity for military veterans bilked more than $4 million from California by understating revenue, the state claims in court. Of $750,500 that HHV also donated for Christmas grants to active-duty injured troops, the charity used only about $550,000 for the grants, California says. In 2001, Help Hospitalized Veterans directors allegedly rubber-stamped and diverted a $500,000 grant to another of Roger Chapin's charities, Conquer Cancer and Alzheimer's Now. A major component of the case involves a donation of calling cards that would keep active-duty military tapped into their favorite sports back home. California says HHV misreported the donation to "boost" revenues, "and to minimize its reported cost of fundraising" - a ploy that was "likely to mislead the IRS, potential donors, and others. It filed suit for breach of fiduciary duty, aiding and abetting a breach of fiduciary duty, engaging in self-dealing transactions, excessive executive compensation, wrongful acquisition of property/unjust enrichment, misrepresentations in... American Target Advertising had paid hundreds of thousands of dollars into the Conquer Cancer and Alzheimer's Now account, the state says, noting that Chapin was longtime friends with one the fundraiser's directors. 75 million worth of "sports scorecards" to the Coalition to Salute America's Heroes, but California says a different charity claimed the donation twice in its 2005-06 tax return. C. and direct-mail company Creative Direct Response. California is represented by Attorney General of California Kamala Harris. HHV's imprudent" investment in a Virginia condominium led to $150,000 in losses, California says. HHV officers also raked in "excessive and unreasonable" pay, wasted assets, and engaged in self-dealing, according to the complaint. In reality, however, HHV neither distributed the scorecards nor had any say in who would receive them, according to the complaint. "In actuality, HHV incurred substantial fundraising costs that were paid from the contributions received from that solicitation campaign. 5 million loans to Conquer Cancer and Alzheimer's Now, according to the complaint.

Constitutionals Staff Make Things Easier On Military Families ...

A group of Tennessee military personnel stationed in Iraq will be able to spend more time talking with their families and friends, thanks to contributions made by employees who work for the state’s three constitutional officers.

Employees of state Treasurer David H. Lillard Jr., Secretary of State Tre Hargett and Comptroller Justin P. Wilson donated 360 AT&T pre-paid phone cards with a total of 39,000 minutes of calling time. Those cards will be sent to soldiers in the 230th Air Cavalry Squadron, which is based in Smyrna and includes soldiers from Smyrna, Jackson and Louisville, Tennessee.

In addition to supplying phone cards to active military, employees from the three constitutional offices participated in helping veterans here in the Nashville area. The staff in the constitutional offices raised $2,053 for Operation Stand Down Nashville, Inc., an organization that provides training and support for veterans, with a special emphasis on veterans who are homeless.

“This is just a way for us to show our appreciation for the brave men and women who are serving or have served in our military,” said Lillard, who organized the phone card drive and the donation to Operation Stand Down Nashville."I have to secure phone cards, support for AT & T would like to thank them. And I was able to display all the gratitude to the veterans and active military personnel in our generous 3 I want to thank all employees from one office. "
