what kind of phone cards can the military use in mosul, iraq?

Any kind of phone card will do. There are two major ways to call home in Iraq.

First, there are the AT&T phone centers which are just trailers with anywhere from 4 to 20 regular style pay telephones.

My son used his laptop to communicate with me. Phones are provided but not that many, it's a first come first serve basis, not sure about Mosul.

See if they can use SPAWAR phone cards. I used them when I was in Iraq. There were specific directions for dialing but I don't remember maybe if you check out this website. I know it is really cheap.

What is the best organization to donate the AT&T phones cards through for our troops in the middle east?

I'm at the website ( https://shop.milexch.com/scs/default.aspx ) and they have six different organizations I can send the cards through. Can anyone tell me which would be best at getting the cards out?

If you wanted to choose one of those, i would go with the Red Cross. They are very good get getting things to where they have to be. I saw them a few times. The next best thing would be to adopt a soldier using a website such as http://www.adoptaussoldier.org/index.

550 minute AT&T phone cards???

If my husband is calling me from South Korea...... How long will a 550 minute calling card last? I bought it from the military exchange?

9.16 hours of calling time (9 hrs + 9 minutes)

Divide 550 minutes by 60 min/hr.
550/60 = 9.16

To find out how much you are paying per minute for the calls, divide the cost of the card by minutes purchased:

9 hours roughly.

9.16 hours of calling time (9 hrs + 9 minutes)

Divide 550 minutes by 60 min/hr.
550/60 = 9.16

To find out how much you are paying per minute for the calls, divide the cost of the card by minutes purchased:

It will last for 550 minutes of phone time....

to determine the # of hours it's 550/60 its 9.16 hours...thats roughly 9 hours 9 1/2 minutes...

Need input about what to send to brother in Navy "bootcamp"?

I know..it all must be on paper. I thought of sending stamps, phone cards, military humor, letters, or simple cards. anyone else have any ideas?

i guess things have changed. when my son was in the marines i sent him junk food. he wanted stuff like hostess cupcakes, cookies, etc. (this was in 1991)
if it all has to be on paper i think you have it covered. the phone card, letters and humorous

You know him. Whatever would encourage him or brighten his day.

I think about the only helpful thing you can send him is postage stamps and send alot of pictures from home and positive letters, that will help him get through his training, Good Luck to your brother!

Send him a letter with these words. You Can do it, I love you and i believe in you. You can put it in a card but when i brother went in the air force they take your self esteem from the top and kill what you had they make you think you are worthless

California Says Vets Charity Scammed It

"This statement, made in one of the direct mail solicitation campaigns defendant CDR [Creative Direct Response] conducted for HHV, was false, misleading, and deceptive and would likely lead a reasonable donor to believe that there were...      Chapin also allegedly destroyed Conquer Cancer and Alzheimer's Now records after the U. S. Congressional Committee on Oversight and Government Reform probed Help Hospitalized Veterans and other veteran charities and asked Chapin to testify.      Other improper claims that the charity made involve $40 million for public-service announcements and shipping discounts, and $40 million in program-service expenses for the fiscal years 2002-11, according to the complaint.      California says Help Hospitlized Veterans, Roger Chapin and other HHV directors claimed the scorecards as revenue and as a "program services expense.      California additionally claims that HHV made improper self-dealing loans of $800,000 to American Target Advertising, a direct-mail fundraiser that is also not a party to the complaint. (CN) - A charity for military veterans bilked more than $4 million from California by understating revenue, the state claims in court. Of $750,500 that HHV also donated for Christmas grants to active-duty injured troops, the charity used only about $550,000 for the grants, California says.      In 2001, Help Hospitalized Veterans directors allegedly rubber-stamped and diverted a $500,000 grant to another of Roger Chapin's charities, Conquer Cancer and Alzheimer's Now.      A major component of the case involves a donation of calling cards that would keep active-duty military tapped into their favorite sports back home.      California says HHV misreported the donation to "boost" revenues, "and to minimize its reported cost of fundraising" - a ploy that was "likely to mislead the IRS, potential donors, and others. It filed suit for breach of fiduciary duty, aiding and abetting a breach of fiduciary duty, engaging in self-dealing transactions, excessive executive compensation, wrongful acquisition of property/unjust enrichment, misrepresentations in...      American Target Advertising had paid hundreds of thousands of dollars into the Conquer Cancer and Alzheimer's Now account, the state says, noting that Chapin was longtime friends with one the fundraiser's directors. 75 million worth of "sports scorecards" to the Coalition to Salute America's Heroes, but California says a different charity claimed the donation twice in its 2005-06 tax return. The charity also falsely stated that direct mailings were "produced by Help Hospitalized Veterans, which retains 100 percent of the contributions made," according to the complaint.      California says that Chapin used this nonprofit as his personal bank account, withdrawing more than $490,000 from its account long after it had closed shop.      The coalition's founder, Roger Chapin, also served as an officer of the second charity, Help Hospitalized Veterans. as well as Frank's accountancy Frank & Co. P. C. and direct-mail company Creative Direct Response.      California is represented by Attorney General of California Kamala Harris.      HHV's imprudent" investment in a Virginia condominium led to $150,000 in losses, California says.      HHV officers also raked in "excessive and unreasonable" pay, wasted assets, and engaged in self-dealing, according to the complaint.      In reality, however, HHV neither distributed the scorecards nor had any say in who would receive them, according to the complaint. "In actuality, HHV incurred substantial fundraising costs that were paid from the contributions received from that solicitation campaign. 5 million loans to Conquer Cancer and Alzheimer's Now, according to the complaint.

Twenty-two years of my life were spent in military service. I served with great men, many of whom paid a much higher price for their patriotism than was asked of me. I was blessed with the company of heroes, and it has made all the difference in the world.During the Vietnam War, a group of students in Los Angeles started a campaign to show their support for prisoners of war. To this day, I continue to receive their POW bracelets, usually engraved with my name or that of a friend, which citizens wore during our imprisonment as a gesture of solidarity. In 1971, the Vietnamese dramatically altered the way they treated their prisoners of war. They had finally begun to realize that Americans cared about what happened to us. I believe this change can be attributed, in part, to the POW bracelet publicity campaign and the similar efforts of community-based programs. In the years after my military career, I have been privileged to serve in elective office. One political duty that weighs heavily on my mind is the care and support of the servicemen and women who have, in the past and now, put themselves in harm's way to protect American lives and freedoms. Community and homegrown support are essential to the strength of our military forces. The Military Family Network seeks to raise awareness of such military-friendly programs all over the world. Military families often lack adequate support as they move constantly, leaving behind friends and familiar associations and resources. As an information company owned by military spouses and veterans, The Military Family Network is uniquely qualified to facilitate these transitions. The guidebook Your Military Family Network is a lifeline for veterans, military families and anyone uprooted in the name of duty. It lists resources offered in each state and businesses that offer military discounts and military-friendly employment are also featured. Everyday my office receives letters from military families seeking guidance to these very resources. The Military Family Network encourages families to recommend companies that demonstrate a capacity for military- and family-friendly service to the "Neighbor of Choice" business network. This is a valuable frame of reference for nomadic families that encourages them to build community relationships quickly. Your Military Family Network then builds upon this database of community knowledge with insights from military members and spouses, as well as from leaders in their specific fields. Such topics range from an expert's definition and suggestions for treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, to helpful chapters provided by the Commissary Agency and the Military Exchange services on how best to use their benefits.Military personnel are not the only ones to gain from Your Military Family Network. As a business catalyst, The Military Family Network has already proven itself with increased participation in the programs and special events it advertises. The City of Hampton, the Virginia Board of Elections and the Armed Forces Job Fair Committee are among several community and installation boards that have all sought advice from the Military Family Network for successful interaction with the military community. Local businesses and events win when awareness is spread through the network. With military branches seeing a swell in recruitment and the War on Terror calling many to see action, the demand for this network and the services it advertises will rise. As we see a higher number of servicemen return home requiring special services and physical therapy, I believe Your Military Family Network will quickly become a necessary guide for them and their families. It is important for America to demonstrate the pride we have for those good men and women serving our nation everyday at great personal cost. The continued show of grassroots support for them and their efforts not only boosts morale but serves a greater common good.John McCainUnited States Senator
